When teeth and gums are healthy, it is recommended by the American Dental Association that adults and children visit the dentist and have their teeth professionally cleaned and examined twice a year.  For patients with gum disease, professional cleaning is recommended every 3-4 months as well as for those with special dental needs, such as children undergoing orthodontic treatment (ie braces).  If you are unsure how often you should visit the dentist, we would be glad to assist.

Tooth sensitivity may be caused by many factors including worn or chipped enamel, receded gums and gum disease, decay/cavities, clenching and grinding, cracks and infected or abscessed roots.  Sometimes the sensitivity can be exacerbated by hot or cold liquids and foods, acidic foods sweets, chewing and even certain toothpaste.  Tooth sensitivity can often be treated effectively but it is essential to first determine the underlying cause.  If you are experiencing tooth sensitivity we would be glad to take a look and help you determine the cause and the best method of treatment.

At Kinsey Smiles, we take most dental insurances and will work with you to maximize your benefits. To expedite the insurance claim process, be sure to bring your membership card, member number, information about the insured (it might be your spouse or parent), and any other pertinent information.

We use digital x-rays and intraoral cameras, so it is easy for us to provide your insurance company additional information electronically when they request it.

Since there are so many different plans available, it is a good idea to review your coverage before moving forward with treatment. We will do our best to estimate what your insurance will cover along with any out-of-pocket expenses so you can avoid unwelcome financial surprises. You can even contact your insurance company ahead of time to determine if a certain procedure will be covered.

If you have questions about your benefits, the cost of your treatment, or ways to fit your dentistry into your budget, give our Dacula dental office a call. Our knowledgeable team is always willing to help.

No insurance? No problem! Talk to us about our flexible payment options to make it easy to fit your dental treatment into your budget.

Dental Implants

We use only the best labs and best materials available, and we do excellent work so tooth restorations can last indefinitely. Certain factors that affect the longevity of restorative dentistry can include a patient’s home care habits, how consistent a patient is with professional care and preventive maintenance, whether or not a patient clenches or grinds their teeth, whether or not a patient smokes or has gum disease, as well as many other variables.

Restorative dentistry can include any procedure that restores natural tooth structure. This can include fillings to restore the internal structure, and porcelain veneers to restore worn, chipped or cracked teeth. Restorative dentistry can also include crowns to cover and restore teeth back to their natural size, shape, and strength. Bridges and dental implants can be used to restore and replace missing teeth.

If you have been researching dental implants, you probably know the many health and cosmetic benefits they offer to patients who have suffered from tooth loss. If you have read about dental implant surgery, you might be thinking that it sounds painful.

Generally speaking, however, dental implants are well tolerated by patients and usual only require over-the-counter medications like Advil and Tylenol to control post-surgery discomfort.

Teeth have many nerve endings and can be sensitive, but the bone around dental implants does not contain the same number of nerve endings. Therefore, anything more than mild discomfort is rare with dental implant placement.

Some patients might experience slight swelling or bruising, but it generally resolves quickly and you will be well on the path to recovery in no time. We will discuss what you can expect during dental implant placement and restoration when you arrange a dental consultation with Dr. Kinsey to discuss your options. He will be able to address any questions or concerns you may have so you feel confident in your choice.

Most patients who opt for dental implants to replace their missing teeth are extremely pleased with the results and often tell us they wish they had done it sooner.

A dental implant replaces a missing tooth or teeth in the most lifelike way possible. The dental implant post mimics the root of your tooth, and because it is made of a biocompatible metal, such as titanium, it will actually fuse with your natural bone for unsurpassed stability.

When Dr. Kinsey places the implant crown, he will design it with your comfort and appearance in mind. Our tooth-colored restorations are both durable and highly esthetic.

Successful dental implants require enough healthy bone to support the implant and the force from chewing. To determine if you are a good candidate for a dental implant, Dr. Kinsey will evaluate your oral health. Should additional treatments, such as bone grafting, be required to proceed with treatment, you'll be pleased to know that Dr. Kinsey offers bone grafting right here in our Dacula dental office.

One of the many benefits of dental implants includes their compatibility with dental bridges and dentures for patients who need to replace multiple missing teeth affordably but wish to have the added confidence that implant-retained dentistry provides.

If you are facing a dental extraction or you have missing teeth, contact Kinsey Smiles to learn more about how dental implants can benefit your health and smile.

Invisalign Clear Braces

It is recommended that you remove your liners before eating anything and clean your teeth prior to placing your learners back in your mouth.

You can drink with the aligners in but it is recommended that you do not have hot beverages such as coffee or hot tea with your liners in, as they may warp the liner material.

The short answer is no. Most cosmetic dental procedures are extremely conservative and therefore post-treatment discomfort is usually minimal. Almost all procedures are done under local anesthetic to ensure your comfort. With Regard to Invisalign clear aligners, we find that they are generally much more comfortable than traditional braces since they provide a very light but consistent force on the teeth.

Compared to traditional braces and other aligner systems, any discomfort with Invisalign is minimal. Sometimes patients report feeling slight discomfort when they start a new aligner, but usually within 24 to 48 hours it is gone.

Treatment time will vary between patients, but on average patients wear them for about 12 months. Patients with minimal crowding or minimal tooth movement can be completed in as little as six months, whereas severely crowded teeth involving a lot of movement may take up to 18 months or more. However, this degree of severity is rarely seen in our practice.

Absolutely! We have found that one of the best ways to accomplish this begins with an accurate diagnosis which includes digital photographs and 3-D models of your teeth. After a thorough interview, and equally thorough exam and gathering all of the data needed, we can analyze the data and the photos in the models and then come up with several excellent options. We would then meet with you and take you on a tour of your mouth using the photos and discuss what can be done to restore your mouth to excellent health, function and aesthetics. In advanced cases, treatment can also be phased so to fit your schedule and budget.

We offer professional whitening for dark or discolored teeth. In addition, we can provide patients with Invisalign clear aligners to easily resolve crowded, crooked or rotated teeth. We also offer a variety of restorative solutions using the latest techniques and materials which can restore your teeth to a more aesthetically pleasing size, shape, and color - most commonly done using state of the art porcelain veneers or crowns. We also offer solutions for missing teeth which most commonly include dental implants or tooth colored bridges-both of which can be very aesthetic while restoring function.

Traditional braces involve brackets which are glued to the teeth, into which wire is attached. This straightens the teeth over time.

Invisalign straightens the teeth without using wires in brackets, but instead uses a series of clear customized aligners. Aligners are worn around the clock except when eating and brushing, and since they are completely removable brushing and flossing are very simple compared to traditional braces.

While most people can be effectively treated with Invisalign, there are some certain clinical situations that require the use of traditional braces. These cases usually involve significant changes to the bite or cases where jaw surgery is indicated.

Invisalign is an innovative and discreet way to address teeth alignment, bite discrepancies, and cosmetic issues without the need for traditional braces. Many of our teen and adult patients want a straighter smile, but brackets and wires are not appealing to them.

Using a series of clear plastic aligner trays, Invisalign gradually moves teeth into alignment. Many patients report that Invisalign is comfortable and easy to use.

Once we determine if Invisalign is right for you, Dr. Kinsey will plan your treatment, ensuring a comfortable and beautiful outcome. The length of treatment will depend on how many teeth need to move and how far they must move to achieve an ideal bite.

A consultation with Dr. Kinsey will help him determine treatment times and cost, which you can discuss at your appointment.

Of course, once you receive your aligners, your compliance will be the key to your success. Remove your aligners only to eat, drink hot liquids, and clean your teeth. The rest of the day, you should wear your aligners. Most patients have no problem following the recommendations since Invisalign is comfortable and nearly invisible.

Periodontal (Gum) Treatments

Periodontal (gum) disease is common and often preventable.  The best way to prevent periodontal disease is to establish and consistently practice good oral hygiene.  The most important factors are good oral hygiene and regular dental visits.

Good Oral Hygiene:  Floss daily and brush your teeth at least 2 times each day for at least 2 minutes.  Most people fall short with how long they spend brushing so an electric toothbrush with a built-in timer (such as Sonicare) can be very helpful.  Our office also recommends using Listerine antiseptic mouth rinse along with brushing and flossing.

Regular Dental Visits:  It is recommended that even the healthiest of mouths be seen every six months for a professional cleaning and examination.  Some individuals have risk factors such as prior gum disease, smoking, dry mouth, medications and braces which may require more frequent professional visits to ensure excellent oral health.

Preventive Dentistry

Tooth sensitivity may be caused by many factors including worn or chipped enamel, receded gums and gum disease, decay/cavities, clenching and grinding, cracks and infected or abscessed roots.  Sometimes the sensitivity can be exacerbated by hot or cold liquids and foods, acidic foods sweets, chewing and even certain toothpaste.  Tooth sensitivity can often be treated effectively but it is essential to first determine the underlying cause.  If you are experiencing tooth sensitivity we would be glad to take a look and help you determine the cause and the best method of treatment.

Dental Bonding and Porcelain Veneers are both dental procedures that can change the size, shape and color of your teeth and ultimately enhance the appearance of your smile.  The result of both procedures can be the same but there are differences.

Materials:

Dental bonding utilizes a tooth-colored resin material which is adhered directly to the teeth and then shaped and polished to the desired result.

Porcelain veneers are made from a thin shell of porcelain in a dental lab that is then adhered directly to the teeth.

Time:

Dental bonding is usually accomplished in a single visit.

Porcelain veneers typically require two visits – the first visit consists of preparing the teeth and making an impression/mold and the second visit consist of permanently adhering the veneers to the teeth.

Tooth Preparation:

Dental bonding usually requires little or no tooth preparation depending on the circumstances.

Porcelain veneers usually require a very small amount of enamel to be removed in order to create space for the new veneer to adhere to the teeth and provide a natural shape and contour.

Longevity and Results:

Both procedures can provide long-lasting and highly esthetic results.  Typically speaking, because porcelain veneers are made from a harder material and by a highly trained dental lab professional who specializes in the fabrication of esthetic restorations, they often provide a superior esthetic result as well as greater strength and longevity.

Cost:

In most cases, porcelain veneers are going to have a higher cost than dental bonding due to requiring multiple appointments as well as an associated lab fee.  However, when you factor in the longevity and superior esthetic results of porcelain veneers, the long term costs are comparable and may even be less with porcelain veneers.  In all porcelain veneer cases, we have a thin mouthguard made for patients to wear during sleep to combat against potentially harmful effects of nighttime clenching and grinding.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Sensitivity can occur with fillings, but we rarely experience that in our practice. During your procedure you should be completely comfortable, and we ensure this by using very high-quality local anesthetics. We also employ certain techniques and materials when placing fillings that almost completely eliminates post-treatment sensitivity.

We use only the best labs and best materials available, and we do excellent work so tooth restorations can last indefinitely. Sedation Dentistry

At Kinsey Smiles, we offer oral sedation for patients who need additional help relaxing during their procedure.

Many patients experience dental anxiety, and it is nothing to feel ashamed about. Oral sedation uses prescription medication and is safe for most patients. We will evaluate your medical history to determine if it will work safely for you.

Our entire clinical staff has received additional training to offer oral sedation safely. We monitor your vitals during your procedure, as an additional way to protect your health.

Oral sedation will leave you feeling groggy and tired after your appointment, so we will require that you arrange a ride home from your appointment and that you take it easy for the rest of the day. You can resume your normal activities the next morning, as long as you are feeling up to it.

Studies show that many people with a fear of the dentist avoid even routine appointments designed to protect their oral health. As a result, serious dental conditions can develop and eventually require an emergency dental exam. A dental emergency is never ideal.

Our entire team at Kinsey Smiles looks forward to helping you get the dental care you need to stay healthy while enjoying a comfortable experience.

Almost all procedures are done under local anesthetic to ensure your comfort. With Regard to Invisalign clear aligners, we find that they are generally much more comfortable than traditional braces since they provide a very light but consistent force on the teeth.

Cosmetic dentistry can drastically improve the appearance of your smile by whitening dark or discolored teeth, aligning crooked, rotated, or misaligned teeth, or by restoring worn down teeth to a more aesthetically desirable size and shape. Regardless of the treatment method used, cosmetic dentistry can drastically improve your overall appearance and self-confidence.
