Your Dental Experience at Kinsey Smiles

Our specialized exams encompass a thorough assessment of your entire mouth. This includes evaluating jaw alignment and bite function, conducting oral cancer screenings, assessing orthodontic needs, and evaluating the status of the patient’s wisdom teeth. At Kinsey Smiles, we embrace the latest technology and up-to-date protocols to enhance patient experience.

Dr. Kinsey will review your medical and dental background, take x-rays with advanced imaging equipment, and physically inspect your oral cavity. He will assess for indications of infections, cavities, and lesions, as well as evaluate your bite alignment. Our highly skilled hygienist will complete your dental cleaning, effectively removing debris and accumulation from your teeth and along your gum line. This not only freshens your breath, and helps your teeth look brighter – and it feels oh so good afterwards!

Special Gum Treatments

Since there is a strong link between oral health and total health, we pay attention to the condition of your gums! If we find that a patient has gum disease (common in many adults) it may require advanced periodontal treatment and we have your back!

If gum disease calls for advanced periodontal treatment, our hygiene team dedicates additional time to effectively remove accumulated tartar and bacteria, which can lead to tooth loss in more serious situations. Should you require a deep cleaning to restore your oral health, we prioritize your comfort by providing appropriate anesthesia and even sedation dentistry measures if you experience anxiety or sensitivity during treatment.

Your comfort and health is priority one at Kinsey smiles and we have the confidence and competence to deliver on the promise. Our objective is to help restore you to total health through oral health. Please contact us to book a consultation with our dentist in Dacula or Cornelia today.

Other Preventive Dentistry Services

In addition to exams and dental cleanings, Dr. Kinsey can recommend additional preventive dentistry treatment to help you stay healthy and smiling:

  • Orthodontic Evaluations – If you need to straighten your teeth, have an unhealthy bite pattern, or are dealing with jaw issues, Dr. Kinsey may conduct an orthodontic evaluation. He will help you identify the best treatment, which may include traditional braces or clear aligner therapy.
  • Fluoride Treatment – Applying flouride is a common part of some dental hygiene protocols. Fluoride exists naturally in the earth and water. It can penetrate below tooth enamel and encourages mineral uptake, which helps strengthen your smile against cavities. Fluoride can be provided in one of three forms: a varnish that is painted onto your teeth, a foam that is squirted into trays that you then bite into, or as a mouthwash.
  • Sealants – Dental sealants are small, yet durable protective coatings adhered to the chewing (top) surfaces of your teeth. These are usually applied to younger patients who have deep crevices and have trouble brushing their teeth.
  • Dental Guards – Mouthguards are a well-known means of preventative dentistry in Dacula. Different styles can be provided according to your needs:
    • Night guards to address bruxism and help you get a good night’s sleep
    • Sports guards to protect your smile while participating in contact activities,
    • Occlusal splints to relieve jaw pain.

Preventive Dentistry

Some signs of Periodontal (Gum) Disease may include any or all of the following:

  • swollen or puffy gums
  • gums that appear to be receding or pulling away from the teeth
  • gums that appear bright red—especially around the edges and between teeth
  • gums that feel tender to the touch or sensitive to brushing and/or flossing
  • gums that bleed easily with brushing or flossing
  • persistent bad breath
  • loose teeth or teeth that feel mobile
  • new spaces developing between teeth

If you notice any of these signs or symptoms, it is important to have your condition evaluated as soon as possible. With a thorough evaluation, Dr. Kinsey will be able to diagnose the presence or absence of gum disease and make recommendations accordingly. If caught early enough, gum disease may be 100% reversible, and as with most things, the earlier you diagnose and treat, the better and more predictable the outcome.

Periodontal (Gum) Disease can be treated in a variety of different ways depending on the severity and progression of the disease. Dr. Kinsey would thoroughly evaluate the health of the gums and bone supporting the teeth using several diagnostic methods, including measurements as well as x-ray analysis. Based on the diagnosis, gum disease may be treated in one of the following ways:

  • change in home care habits and recommendations of cleaning devices such as a Sonicare toothbrush or a Waterpik water flosser
  • increased frequency of  professional hygiene therapy
  • professional cleaning with through medicinal irrigation under the gums
  • prescription rinses to be used at home
  • prescription antibiotics and antifungals
  • deep cleaning, scaling and root planing (non-surgical)
  • referral to a gum specialist (Periodontist) for further evaluation

When teeth and gums are healthy, it is recommended by the American Dental Association that adults and children visit the dentist and have their teeth professionally cleaned and examined twice a year. For patients with gum disease, professional cleaning is recommended every 3-4 months, as well as for those with special dental needs, such as children undergoing orthodontic treatment (i.e., braces). If you are unsure how often you should visit the dentist, we would be glad to assist.

Tooth sensitivity may be caused by many factors, including worn or chipped enamel, receded gums and gum disease, decay/cavities, clenching and grinding, cracks, and infected or abscessed roots. Sometimes the sensitivity can be exacerbated by hot or cold liquids and foods, acidic foods, sweets, chewing, and even certain toothpaste. Tooth sensitivity can often be treated effectively, but it is essential to first determine the underlying cause. If you are experiencing tooth sensitivity, we would be glad to take a look and help you determine the cause and the best method of treatment.
